Pallet Quantity and Space Planning

Estimate storage footprint and prepare a clearer supply or removal request.

Reviewed November 2, 2026

Count units and groups separately

Record loose pallets, complete stacks and mixed-size groups. If you estimate a stack by height, state that it is an estimate and verify the construction is uniform. Count changes after collection or new deliveries should be communicated before dispatch.

Use the footprint formula transparently

For inch dimensions, rectangular floor area per pallet is length × width ÷ 144 square feet. Divide quantity by the proposed count per stack and round up for the number of stacks. Multiply those two values to estimate the bare stacked footprint.

Keep the estimate inside its limits

The result excludes aisles, turning, required clearances and handling space. It does not approve a stack height or calculate a vehicle load. Confirm the layout with the responsible operator and the actual handling and transport requirements.

Keep these questions together

  • Count stacks and loose units
  • Measure usable floor space
  • Plan for safe access
