Export Pallet Planning Checklist

Questions to confirm before sourcing wood packaging for an international shipment.

Reviewed November 2, 2026

Name the complete journey

Give the shipment’s destination and transit points to the freight professional. Confirm which wood-packaging requirements apply before sourcing a reused pallet. Do not infer international acceptance from a previous domestic delivery.

Ask the supplier for compliant packaging

APHIS directs exporters to properly marked wood packaging and the relevant accredited inspection channels. Record the complete mark, condition and supplier evidence. Never reproduce, alter or add an official treatment mark yourself.

Check the present package

Repairs, replacement components and an unreadable mark can raise questions that an old photograph does not resolve. Have the responsible supplier and shipping parties review the actual pallet and load before dispatch. Keep documentation with the shipment plan.

Keep these questions together

  • Confirm destination rules
  • Check marks and alterations
  • Coordinate with the freight provider
